About This Quiz

The term Marie Kondo uses to describe the feeling one should have from the objects one surrounds oneself with is "tokimeku," which is a Japanese expression that roughly translates to a sense of sudden excitement. Essentially, Marie Kondo believes that every home should be a place filled with the objects that arouse that feeling, and only those objects. These may incite that feeling by invoking a memory, or by filling one with the desire to act, or some other way, but the important aspect of them is how they make one feel.

Keeping a tidy home is only one part of the happiness equation. Many parts of life could do with a clearing out. People fall into unhealthy social habits, dietary habits, and patterns of seeing themselves. In this digital age, there is a huge amount of clutter that can be hard to assess because it is metaphysical, living in hard drives, email inboxes, and in the cloud. The more one examines one's life, the more it becomes clear that applying a little Marie Kondo to areas of one's life can keep us from falling into what Stephen Covey called "getting stuck in the thick of thin things." To find out which area of your life needs some Marie Kondo, take this quiz!
